Statement – Bushfire near Taralga Wind Farm

29 January 2018

Updated Monday 29 January 11:00am

A bushfire that had been burning in the area to the north east of Taralga township between Bannaby and Wombeyan Caves for several days has now been brought under control by the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS).

RFS firefighting teams attended on the ground, supported by firefighting aircraft and heavy plant.

No injuries to staff or damage to the wind farm has been reported.

When firefighting efforts shifted away from the area near the wind farm last week, RFS approved the resumption of operation for all turbines located south of Bannaby Road only; this occurred on Wednesday 24 January.

The seven wind turbines located north of Bannaby Road remained shut down to assist aerial firefighting throughout the weekend. Now that this has concluded, these turbines are scheduled to be restarted later today (Monday 29 January) after engineering checks have been completed.

Pacific Hydro wishes to express its sincere thanks to the RFS, its firefighting teams, and supporting volunteers for managing this emergency; bringing the fire under control; and defending both our neighbours’ properties and the Taralga Wind Farm.
