5 June 2013
Portland businesses and schools joined forces at Nuns Beach today to celebrate World Environment Day.
World Environment Day is a day of action in the community for the environment and approximately 1000 grasses and shrubs were planted at the beach as part of ongoing revegetation works at the popular local site.
Organisations partnering to hold the event included Pacific Hydro, Glenelg Shire Council, Portland Aluminium, Portland Primary School, Bayview College, Seawinds Nursery and Portland Sustainability Group.
Following the completion of the works the students and representatives of partner organisations enjoyed a barbecue lunch.
Pacific Hydro General Manager Australia, Lane Crockett congratulated all partner organisations for their involvement.
“Pacific Hydro is proud to be partnering with such a range of local organisations on this wonderful community event,” Mr Crockett said.
“This is the third year of planting at Nuns Beach on World Environment Day and it’s pleasing to see the progress that has been made over the years at this iconic local spot thanks to the efforts of all involved,” Mr Crockett said.
World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5 and is a day of positive action for the environment. The theme of WED 2013 is Think. Eat. Save.
