Last chance to apply to the Portland Sustainable Communities Fund

23 May 2012

With just over one week to go until applications close for the Portland Sustainable Communities Fund, Pacific Hydro is reminding community groups that there is still time to get an application in for a chance to share in the $90,000 Fund.

“Applications close on Tuesday 5 June and all community groups who operate in the Portland, Cape Bridgewater, Cape Nelson, Gorae, Tyrendarra and Heywood townships are encouraged to apply”, said Pacific Hydro’s General Manager, Australia, Mr Lane Crockett.

2011 recipient, the Portland Men’s Shed is also recommending groups submit an application.

“Pacific Hydro’s support enabled us to purchase tools and equipment which is used in everyday activities as well as for charitable projects such as the Children’s Easter Box activity run by the YMCA,” said the Shed’s President Gerry Leonard.

“You’ve got to be in it to win it as they say, so I recommend all community groups apply for funding,” said Mr Leonard.

The Portland Sustainable Communities Fund has already injected over $370,000 into 97 projects.

“Pacific Hydro is proud to operate in the Portland area and I congratulate the notable projects that have come to fruition in the five years the Portland Sustainable Communities Fund has been operating,” said Mr Crockett.

The Fund, which is based on a percentage of revenue from the Cape Bridgwater and Cape Nelson South wind farms, calls for applications each year for the operating life of the projects. Applications are invited in the areas of health, education, sport, environment and the arts and community groups working to make a positive and lasting contribution in the community are encouraged to apply.

Application forms along with the program guidelines and further information are available on Pacific Hydro’s website or by calling Community Fund Coordinator Chloe Carpenter on 03 8621 6428.
