Keyneton Wind Farm Proposed
Pacific Hydro has conducted preliminary investigations for a
proposed wind farm at Keyneton in South Australia. The site is
located 6km west of Sedan and 10km south east of Angaston and runs
approximately 18km north to south.
While we are still in the early days of investigation, current
wind energy analysis indicates that the site is suitable for a wind
farm of up to 60 generators with a total capacity of up to 120 MW.
At this size the wind farm could produce enough zero emission
energy to power the equivalent of 65,000 homes, abating around
380,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas each year.
Pacific Hydro hopes to submit a Development Application for the
wind farm to the Minister for Urban Planning and Development in the
early part of 2010. The Application will include the results from a
range of environmental and technical investigations being
undertaken which, together with feedback from the community, will
inform the final design of the project.
The Development Application will provide full details of the
proposed project as well as an assessment of any potential
environmental impacts.
Pacific Hydro is committed to leaving a minimal footprint on the
earth and ensuring that the wind farm brings the maximum benefit to
the local community while also reducing the impact of climate
change.
Community feedback is important in Pacific Hydro's planning
process and consultation has begun in the local area. Consultation
is expected to continue until the end of 2009 as we wish to ensure
the community is fully informed about the proposal.
Meetings with local community groups and individuals in the area
are being arranged and public information sessions will follow
later in the year once details from further environmental studies
are available.
We also encourage the local community to contact us directly to
ask any questions about the proposal.
