Portland Sustainable Communities Fund open for applications
The $90,000 Portland Sustainable Communities Fund is now open
and calling for applications from community groups operating in the
Portland area and working towards a socially cohesive and
sustainable future.
General Manager for Australia, Mr Lane Crockett, encouraged
community groups to submit an application.
"The Fund is designed to support a wide range of initiatives and
all community groups who require funding should apply", said Mr
Crockett.
"Our Community Fund Coordinator, Chloe Carpenter, is available
to help with the application process and community groups with
questions are encouraged to contact her."
The Portland Sustainable Communities Fund has already injected
$190,000 into 43 community groups and organisations in the local
area.
"Pacific Hydro is proud to operate in the Portland community and
I congratulate the notable projects that have come to fruition
since the Portland Sustainable Communities Fund was implemented",
added Mr Crockett.
Projects that have received funding in previous years include
the Winda Mara Aboriginal Corporation who were able to set up a not
for profit business for the long term unemployed to produce
curtains for low income families; the Great South West Walk to help
complete the Springs Camp site; and the Portland and District
Emergency Relief Centre who were able to purchase a cool room and
can now distribute perishable food items to needy families and
community members in the area.
The Fund is accepting applications between 12 April and 24 May
2010 and is available every year for the operating life of the
Portland Wind Energy Project. Applications are accepted
across five funding areas: sport, art, health and safety,
environment and education.
