Pacific Hydro participates in event where the most relevant subjects for an increase in wind-energy generation in Brazil will be debated

The Wind Forum Brazil 2009 will be attended by representatives of the Brazilian government, associations, universities and the main companies performing in the sector

São Paulo, 16-17 February - Pacific Hydro, a leading Australian company in the production of electricity from renewable sources and committed to the generation of clean energy by means of the implementation of sustainable projects is participating today and tomorrow in the event Wind Forum Brazil 2009 which will approach the most important issues related to wind-energy generation in Brazil. Pointed out as one of the best energetic alternatives for the years to come, the meeting will be attended by representatives of the Brazilian government, solution suppliers and investors, in addition to the main associations in the sector and universities.

Among the attendees already confirmed are Roberto Smith, presidents of the BNB (Banco do Nordeste); Renato Casagrande, senator and reporter of the mixed commission of Climatic Changes; Sebastião Florentino with Eletrobrás; among others.

"Problems such as the absence of specific regulations, competitiveness in auctions related to energy sources and lack of availability of national and international equipment make it difficult the development of the wind-energy generation in Brazil", says Mark Argar, general manager of Pacific Hydro in Brazil. "Fortunately, this scenario has been changing with the recent moves of the government and the whole sector for the development of the Brazilian wind-energy complex", completes that executive.

And tomorrow, the 17th, at 12:20h, Pacific Hydro will present the panel "Registering wind-energy projects as MDL (Mechanisms of Clean Development) and obtaining the CER (Certificate of Renewable Energy): from certification to commercialization of the CERs in the global market" and it will also present the Australian Market Mechanism as a possible alternative for Brazil.

Curiosities about wind energy:

  • wind energy is not expensive when compare to thermal-energy;
  • wind energy is the cleanest energy in the world;
  • environmental license is not an issue;
  • a new project takes about 18 months to be ready and generating energy;
  • the sum of the demand of wind-energy in the world with the internal demand in Brazil could warm up the Brazilian industrial segment of equipment and generate thousands of jobs in the country;
  • the Ten-Year Plan disposes the installation of thermal-electric plants in the Northeast where there is the highest potential of wind-energy generation (estimated at 90 GW installed capacity, equivalent to approximately 30 GW of firm clean energy).

PANEL

Speakers:
Mark Argar, general manager of Pacific Hydro in Brazil; André Woiler, Government and External Relations Manager of Pacific Hydro in Brazil
