One million Clements Gap Community Fund launched

With construction of the 57MW Clements Gap wind farm nearing completion, leading Australian renewable energy company Pacific Hydro has launched the Clements Gap Sustainable Communities Fund which will provide over AUD$1 million in grants to community groups over the life of the project.

"The Clements Gap wind farm has received unwavering support from the local community and as the wind farm begins to take shape we are very pleased to launch the Sustainable Communities Fund as part of our commitment to support sustainability in local communities", said General Manager Australia/Pacific, Mr Lane Crockett.

The Clements Gap wind farm is Pacific Hydro's first project in South Australia. The Company began construction following the Federal Government's commitment to increase the renewable energy to 20 percent by 2020.

The Clements Gap Fund will provide a pool of approximately $50,000 each year for the life of the project (typically 20-25 years). Community groups working in Clements Gap, Crystal Brook, Redhill and Port Broughton areas can apply for a share in the $50,000 pool of funding.

"Pacific Hydro's focus on sustainability is not just about the environment but also the sustainability of local communities and we encourage local organisations who are implementing projects in the local areas around the wind farm to consider applying for funding", Mr Crockett added.

Construction at the Clements Gap Wind Farm is expected to be completed by September 2009. Once operational the wind farm will produce the equivalent energy needs of around 30,000 homes each year, abating 170,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas.

Applications in the inaugural round are being accepted between 11 March 2009 and 20 April 2009.

Applicants should download a copy of the Fund's guidelines and an application form at: www.pacifichydro.com.au/fund or contact Community Fund Coordinator, Chloe Carpenter on 03 8621 6428 for more information.

In addition to the Clements Gap Wind Farm, Pacific Hydro is investigating other wind farm projects and geothermal opportunities in South Australia.
