Early Works Contract Awarded for Pacific Hydro’s Haughton Solar Farm

14 November 2017

Pacific Hydro celebrated a key milestone today with early works construction contracts for the commencement of the Haughton Solar Farm being awarded to diversified engineering and infrastructure company RCR Tomlinson Ltd.

The Haughton Solar Farm, which heralds Pacific Hydro’s entry to the Queensland market, will be built under an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract, which follows the early works package.

Pacific Hydro’s Chief Executive Officer, Mike Fuge, said that the contract award represented a major landmark for the project.

“This is an extremely important project for Pacific Hydro which attracted a number of high quality tenders and the bidding process was highly competitive. This demonstrates the increased appetite for major suppliers and contractors to be a part of the growing large scale solar sector.” he said.

The project, which received approval for a Material Change of Use from Burdekin Shire Council in June this year to generate up to 500MW of clean power, is subject to final investment sanction by Pacific Hydro and other internal approvals.

The project is expected to be delivered in stages, the first of which will be 100MW.

Pacific Hydro and RCR Tomlinson will finalise the EPC contract for the first stage with major construction works due to commence in March 2018 with commissioning expected in January 2019.

Haughton Solar Farm will provide a number of jobs for the region, with up to 250 jobs created during construction as well as a number of initiatives to encourage local suppliers and businesses to provide services to the project.
