Daroobalgie Solar Farm – Community Update

Pacific Hydro is pleased to provide an update on the proposed Daroobalgie Solar Farm project.
During 2019 initial assessments for the project were undertaken, including ecological and geotechnical surveys.
The project will be classified as a State Significant Development (SSD) by the New South Wales Government. To proceed, Pacific Hydro will be required to submit a Development Application supported by an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to the Minister for Planning. In late November, we took the first step in this process by submitted a scoping report to the Department of Planning and Environment to support a request for the Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs). The SEARs will provide guidance on what will need to be considered within the EIS.
Pacific Hydro is seeking approval to develop a solar farm at Daroobalgie. If approved, the $150 million project will generate 160 jobs during construction and inject about $100,000 annually into the local community through Pacific Hydro’s Sustainable Communities Fund.
The solar farm will include approximately 420,000 photovoltaic panels over 350 hectares of land about 10km north-east of Forbes.
At completion Daroobalgie Solar Farm will generate enough clean energy to provide power to approximately 34,000 homes each year and have a generation life in excess of 25 years.
Pacific Hydro expects to complete an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project in 2020.
Pacific Hydro aims to establish and maintain respectful and collaborative relationships with the communities in which we operate or seek to operate in. We acknowledge that it has been some time since we were in touch, however we are committed to keeping you informed about the project as it moves forward.
Neighbours, stakeholders and members of the community will be provided with opportunities to participate in the EIS process, with initial meetings expected to take place in early 2020.
Throughout 2020 we will be conducting public information sessions, meeting with business and local interest groups, and working with Forbes Shire Council to ensure that local knowledge and perspectives are understood and considered during all stages of planning.
