Who We Are
Pacific Hydro is one of the world’s leading clean energy independent power producers. We have the vision, capability and commitment to develop clean energy projects and carbon abatement products across the globe.
We currently have 2,500 megawatts (MW) of hydro power and wind farm projects at varying stages of development, construction and operation in Australia, Chile, Brazil, Fiji and the Philippines.
Our 300MW of operating projects have already saved the atmosphere from over 7 million tonnes of greenhouse gas pollution and produce enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of 600,000 homes each year.
We are active in the booming carbon market, with proven success in the production and trading of carbon credits from our run-of-river hydro projects registered under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol.
Our innovative clean energy projects not only benefit the environment and our communities, but also deliver significant value to our partners and investors. Pacific Hydro is owned Industry Funds Management providing a sustainable investment to around 5 million Australians.
With a policy of not building any new dams, all our hydro projects have made use of either existing irrigation dams or run-of-water flows, while our wind projects have been sensitive to the existing farming environment and communities of our sites.
With more than A$5 billion of new hydroelectric and wind farm projects planned for development across Australia, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific over the next five years our projects will continue to reward investors, safeguard the environment and support local communities.

Professional Development
Pacific Hydro offers professional development through personal and team training and ongoing education for all employees. This is an area we focus on as part of our development and retentions strategy and includes internal knowledge training through initiatives such as lunchtime information sessions and training courses. External professional development is also encouraged and tracked for our employees through a range of methods. We pride ourselves on having a “healthy” training budget and offering employees opportunities to move into different areas of our business through our internal recruitment methods and our performance appraisal system.
Employee Opinion Survey
We value the thoughts and feedback of our people and are always keen to evolve and improve in areas of our business where we may not be performing as well as we should. Employee feedback helps the company understand what areas it needs to improve and is also used as a benchmark for us to compare ourselves against each year.
The Employee Opinion Survey [and OAS] is a confidential and anonymous survey held annually, designed to give all our employees the opportunity to state their opinion on what is important to them in the workplace and how well they think Pacific Hydro is performing in relation to those criteria.
Our response rate globally for 2008 was an impressive 90% proving our employees support the process and believe that their say makes a difference. The global performance score across best practice categories were within the top quartile. This reflects an organisation that, across the categories of leadership, strategy, information, processing and business performance, is in the top 25% compared to other organisations in the survey providers benchmark database. Overall satisfaction was also measured in the top 25%.
Year on year initiatives are approved for implementation in the specific areas, highlighted by the survey results globally and locally, in order to maintain or increase satisfaction.
