Two and a half years of monitoring and analysis led Pacific Hydro to select a site for the proposed Yaloak Wind Farm on private farming land near Ballan in western Victoria, just one hour’s drive from Melbourne.
Why Yaloak?
The chosen site features everything we seek out for a wind farm development: consistently powerful winds, ideal geology, a close connection to the National Electricity Grid, existing land use compatible with a wind farm, easy access for construction crews and, importantly, strong community support.
The proposed project will comprise up to 70 windmills and generate enough clean electricity to power up to 40,000 Victorian homes each year. It will provide a significant boost to the regional economy and safeguard the local environment and indigenous wildlife habitats through extensive revegetation programs.
Current Status
We submitted the Yaloak planning application to Victorian Planning Minister Rob Hulls who, in July 2005, rejected the proposal.
We are currently collecting further environmental data before submitting a new wind farm proposal for the site.
