Portland Wind Energy Project - Stage II

Construction of Pacific Hydro’s Portland Wind Energy Project, Stage II, (PWEPII) at Cape Bridgewater is progressing well with the first tower erected in early 2008.

The project, which will be the largest in Victoria when complete, is building south west Victoria’s profile as the State’s renewable energy hub. The PWEPII project has already provided a boost for the local economy by creating many direct and indirect jobs for local contractors during its construction phase.

PWEP II is the second stage of the $330 million Portland Wind Energy Project which covers four sites in the Portland area – at Yambuk, Cape Bridgewater, Cape Sir William Grant and Cape Nelson.

The 58MW development comprises 29, 2MW wind generators which will each produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of over 35,000 Victorian homes.

Construction at PWEPII is expected to be completed in mid 2008.
