Carmody’s Hill

Project has since had a name change and is now known as Carmody's Hill

The proposed wind farm site is located on the ridgeline to the east of Georgetown and runs approximately 18km north from Mt Misery.  The total area of the site is approximately 4930 hectares however only around 33 hectares will be used in the final development footprint.

The site has been selected by Pacific Hydro due to its:

  • Strong, consistent winds
  • Proximity and access to the National Electricity Grid
  • Existing land practices which can co-exist with the turbines
  • Large area and low population density
  • Good public road access

The wind farm will generate significant environmental, economic and social benefits including:

Greenhouse abatement - Up to 540,000 tonnes of global warming pollution avoided each year.

Clean energy - With up to 70 turbines the wind farm will produce enough electricity to power up to 80,000 homes every year.

Jobs and investment - Pacific Hydro aims to have a minimum of 40% local jobs/content from the A$350 million project cost. This will provide a significant boost to the regional economy.

Farmer support - Provides an opportunity for local farms to diversify.

Low land use - The permanent works take up less than 1% of the landholder’s properties, ensuring current farming practices can continue. This also ensures a minimal environmental footprint of the project.

Water savings - A similar amount of electricity produced by a coal-fired power station would use up to 800 million litres of clean fresh water each year.

Community benefits - Pacific Hydro aims to be an active member of the community. We support local activities at all our wind farm sites and once a project is operational, provide a portion of its revenue back into local community organisations through our Sustainable Communities Fund.
