Clements Gap Wind Farm is situated in the Barunga Range in South Australia, 20 minutes south of Port Pirie. The Clements Gap site was chosen because of its consistently powerful winds, simple grid connection, easy construction access and strong community support. The project was given planning approval by Port Pirie Regional Council in mid-2003 and will comprise up to 27 windmills with a total capacity of 57MW. It will generate enough clean power for up to 30,000 homes and avoid the emission of 170,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases each year.
In December 2004 Development Approval was obtained from Port Pirie Regional Council. Consultation on cultural heritage protection with local indigenous groups is also underway.
In keeping with our commitment to supporting our communities, as much construction as possible will be contracted locally and domestically. The project continues to enjoy strong support from the community and Port Pirie Regional Council and is set to deliver substantial benefits to the region.
