Our Contribution

Pacific Hydro’s commitment to social responsibility touches all aspects of the development process. We believe that delivering benefits to the communities in which we operate is essential for successful project development and business growth.

Marching to the same tune

The Ararat City Band   A few years ago, the Ararat City Band was down to just five members and close to folding. Today, its future has never been brighter, thanks to a grant from Pacific Hydro’s Sustainable Communities Fund to buy new uniforms. The band is keen to really look the part, and attract new members and appearances with a smarter, more professional image. We’re proud we’ve been able to help them hit the right fashion note.

A bridge over troubled water

Friendship Bridge   Our Bakun Hydro Project generates an invaluable 225GWh of clean electricity each year, but its contribution to the local community left another important legacy. The Luzon Hydro Corporation (LHC), our joint venture with Aboitiz Equity Ventures, exemplified our commitment to community development by building the 292 metre long Luzon Hydro Friendship Bridge across the Amburayan River. The bridge offers 4000 locals a permanent path across dangerous wet season swells to enable agricultural trade and access to essential services. LHC also spends more than $80,000 each year on watershed re-vegetation, rural electrification, medical missions and education scholarships.

Growing our communities

Construction at Codrington   Pacific Hydro’s projects create much-needed employment and investment, especially in regional areas. Codrington Wind Farm in southwest Victoria, Australia’s first fully privately funded wind farm, created 40 construction jobs and injected more than $12 million into the local economy.

Educating the next generation

Educating the next generation   Pacific Hydro has developed relationships with organisations such as the Melbourne Museum, Asthma Victoria and Smogbusters. We believe it’s important to raise community awareness of climate change and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
